There is no quality without equality
There is no quality without equality: Quality Improvement is now a well recognised and embedded method across mental health, and done well empowers staff and patients to have more control over the care they give and receive. However, improvement efforts also run the risk of propagating inequality - in fact by improving the general experience of care without attending to systematic differential experiences they can increase inequality. AMHE brings together Quality Improvement methodology and a central focus on equity, both essentially about power and outcome, to help organisations to centre equity in their approach to improvement, and to make tangible improvements to the access to, experience of and outcome from care, support and treatment for populations who face systemic barriers to care.
